Hungryroot Meal Kit Review

It's been a busy few weeks here and I'm finally catching up. I should have posted this blog last week but life just got in the way. We've had my daughter's basketball season, school, work, my daughter's birthday and other assorted drama. I'm so glad to be getting back to my normal schedule. I also did a new side by side progress photo. It has been quite a while since I did one for social media and I have to say.... even I have to admit that's a huge difference.

One thing I enjoy doing is to try out different meal delivery kits on occasion. Almost two years ago I did a review of SunBasket meal kits. Today I'm going to provide one for Hungryroot. If at the end you decide to give it a try feel free to use this link for a discount. https://www.hungryroot.com/r/Q3NJQS60

I've gotten a few deliveries from Hungryroot in the past and enjoyed most of them. It is very different than other meal kits where every meal requires you to really cook and follow the recipe. Instead Hungryroot offers meals with truly minimal cooking. You want to just roast your meat and have the veggies on the side. They have that (most of what I ordered this time is like that). You want to get a container with pre-cooked protein in sauce and a side of your vegetables and you just saute it all together without putting much cooking effort in at all. They have that too.

One of my favorite from a past delivery was Korean BBQ Chicken & Broccoli Stir-Fry. The meal was literally a package of chicken in Korean BBQ sauce and a container of baby broccoli. You chopped the broccoli down to size and cooked them together in the pan. It may sound way too easy but it was super tasty.

This time I wanted food that had not been pre-sauced or pre-cooked. I was really excited to get some simple meals with some roasted pork, seared steak or a hearty soup. My box was about $70 and included 3 recipes making 2 servings each, oranges, carrots and bratwurst. For the $70 I paid I received 28 credits and a free mystery protein (in this case the bratwurst). You can either let the system decide for you or you can choose meals and groceries from the available options. Also, unlike many meal kits, almost every option is available every week. Most kits rotate so often that you might wait a few months to be able to reorder your favorite.

Hungryroot will ask you to complete a Food Profile where they ask if there are items you want Often, Sometimes or Never. If there are allergies or items you will never eat you can mark Never and those items will be removed so you do not accidentally end up with a box of meals you hate.

Along with the ingredients you'll receive a recipe page telling you how to make each meal, how long it should take and the estimated calories for each recipe.

I did add potatoes to my pork roast. I also added basil and croutons to my soup. Otherwise left every recipe as it is listed. They were all delicious and super simple. One other thing I love about these recipes is I rarely use multiple pans or dirty too many dishes. As much as I enjoy trying new recipes and cooking I seriously hate doing the dishes.

My daughter asked why I don't make pork loin roast with tiny potatoes more often so I can promise that we'll be adding that to our regular grocery list pretty soon.

ROASTED PORK LOIN & GARLICKY VEGGIES

SOUPER TOMATO CHICKEN SOUP

SEARED STEAK, CHIPOTLE MUSHROOMS AND BROCCOLI

All in all I highly recommend trying Hungryroot, especially if you enjoy quick meals without a lot of prep or work involved. I won't be ordered every week but I have placed about 4 orders over the past year and on weeks I know I won't have time to really cook but that I really don't want fast food this is an excellent option.
